Paid internships with employers are central to students’ personal and professional development.

22 paid professional internships in data science have been completed by Alliance students to date

In the defense sector students have interned at the United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC), in a in a new partnership that includes students earning TS/SCI clearances: 3/9 interns have graduated and were hired on graduation.

In the social sector Alliance students are contributing to the mission of organizations like the Hawaii Appleseed Center for law and Environmental Justice, studying tax equity and incarceration disparities in Native Hawaiian populations. At community organizations like Livable Hawaii Kai, the Maunalua Heritage Fishponds and Aloha Harvest students are building data dashboards for decision support and organizational story-telling.

Business and agencies are leveraging student expertise to support their missions and build future workforce: several of our graduates have interned with Hawaiian Airlines and then been hired. State agencies including the Department of Education and Honolulu Fire Department have hosted our interns.

Programs serving the healthcare sector, particularly those looking at health inequity, have welcomed our students as junior analysts, included substance abuse data analysis, traditional medicine analytics and maternal health disparities use cases.
